Oh, hey! It's that piece I just barely finished in time for my show, finally up on dA! I actually finished painting this the morning before hanging, scanned it, then carted it straight over. A few days later I discovered that my scan was all wonky. Particularly upsetting, since the piece sold opening night and I was never going to bring it home again. So I actually brought a scanner with me to the space in order to get it scanned. Show's still up, as of my writing this, if you're in the DC area and want the chance to see this one in person!
Inspired by a combination of Ivan Bilibin's illustrations and the original Russian story that inspired them, as well as Catherynne Valente's take in "Orphan's Tales in the Night Garden" (one of my favourite books, I heartily recommend you read it).
I love Catherynne Valente's book. I bought the Orphan's Tales; In the Night Garden, In the Cities of Coin and Spice and Palimpsest. I'm only 40% done the Night Garden, but I'm eager to start the next one and then Palimpsest. XD I love her style of writing and how she makes her characters seem so, alive! XD

Gonna hold another contest again in a few months...When I have more money lol. Keep your eyes peeled or ask me to keep you updated! C: ♥
I think that's the best way to put it. It breathes. It breathes the stories into our souls so that we can dream and image ourselves in those lives. It's almost as if she found these people/creatures and embodied their souls upon the words she wrote.
There needs to be a fan-club/book-club dedicated to her and her writting on here.

x 1000 Yes, I have read Palimpsest! I adore Valente's work! And am ecstatic to meet someone else who does too! (Also, someone who recognized Lantern! *bounces*)
Yes me too! Lol. I showed yourillustration to my partner and was like "this is why you should read these books!" it's like a club. Honestly I randomly saw your beautiful work and it was like I saw a tattoo on your body! We should meet at the Floor of Heaven. If you have looked at my page you see I illustrate my dreams. Palimpsest was such a freaky book because it was like she had stolen some of my dreams. I loved it.
Aww, thank you so much!! So flattered... I hope you influenced your partner to read them, Valente is so incredibly brilliant. Everyone should have at least one of her stories under their belt. Just read Deathless a few weeks ago. When my commission schedule slows down, I'll probably do some fanart for that, too... So good.
(Sorry for the long response time, I've been absent)
It has a certain Ivan Bilibin feel to it. Lovely, I like the use of complementary colors and the way everything is painted so neatly inside the borders.
